FIDLOCK Review: HERMETIC Dry Bags, TWIST Bottles, and the Double-Bottle Hip Pack

FIDLOCK makes the kind of products that immediately make you wonder why more outdoor gear is not designed this way. The company uses magnets to simplify everyday products such as bicycle bottles, waterproof bags, and hydration packs without sacrificing security.

For this review, I am focusing on three parts of the FIDLOCK lineup: the HERMETIC dry bags, TWIST bottle and base systems, and the Hip Pack + Double Bottle Base.

Although these products serve different purposes, they are built around the same basic philosophy: outdoor gear should be secure when you need it to be, but easy to access when you are moving.

That combination is what makes FIDLOCK different.

What Makes FIDLOCK’s Design Unique?

The most interesting part of the FIDLOCK lineup is not any individual bottle, bag, or pack. It is the technology connecting everything together.

A magnet by itself would make a product easy to attach, but it might not provide enough security for rough roads, mountain-bike trails, or running. A purely mechanical connection could provide that security, but it would normally require more effort to align, fasten, and release.

FIDLOCK combines both.

FIDLOCK HERMETIC Dry Bags

The HERMETIC dry bags are designed to protect phones, money, identification, keys, and other valuables from water, dust, dirt, and sand.

Most small waterproof bags rely on a zipper, folding closure, or plastic track that must be carefully pressed together. Those designs can work, but they also leave room for user error. If you miss part of the closure, your phone may not be nearly as protected as you think it is.

FIDLOCK’s magnetic closure makes the process substantially easier. The three magnetic rows automatically align and close when you release the opening. To open the bag, you pull the magnetic rows apart.

The simplicity is the main attraction. You can open and close the bag quickly without having to inspect the entire seal every time.

What I Like About the HERMETIC Bags

The automatic seal is the feature that separates these bags from most waterproof phone cases. There are fewer steps, and it is immediately apparent when the magnets come together.

I also like that the bag remains functional rather than simply serving as a storage pouch. You can still interact with your phone through the material, which is useful when cycling, hiking, paddleboarding, kayaking, or spending time at the beach.

The clear and transparent versions are particularly helpful when you want to see the phone screen or use the camera without exposing the device to water or sand.

What Could Be Better?

The HERMETIC bags protect their contents from the elements, but they are not rigid cases. They should not be confused with impact-resistant phone protection.

Depending on the phone, case, and items placed inside, the bag can also become bulky. Touchscreen responsiveness through any protective film may not feel exactly the same as using the phone directly.

At $19.99 to $39.99 for the standard Mini, Medi, and Maxi bags, they are also more expensive than basic waterproof pouches. You are paying for the patented closure and easier operation.

FIDLOCK TWIST Bottle and Base System

The FIDLOCK TWIST system eliminates the traditional bicycle bottle cage.

A lightweight base mounts to the bike using the standard threaded bottle-cage holes. Instead of sliding a bottle into a cage, you bring the TWIST bottle toward the base. Magnets attract and center the bottle, and the mechanical connector locks it into place.

To remove it, twist the bottle away from the mount.

This design gives the bike a much cleaner appearance when the bottle is removed. The standard bike base weighs only 16 grams and sits close to the frame, so you do not have a large empty cage attached to the bike.

The popular TWIST Bottle 590 + Bike Base holds 590 milliliters, or 19.95 fluid ounces, and retails for $49.99. It includes a leak-resistant, self-sealing cap, high-flow valve, removable dust cap, bike base, and mounting screws. FIDLOCK says its TWIST bottles are BPA- and BPS-free, and the bottle can be placed in the dishwasher after removing the connector.

Using the TWIST System

There is a small learning curve when first using the TWIST system. Most cyclists have spent years pulling bottles upward out of conventional cages. With FIDLOCK, the bottle comes off with a sideways twisting motion.

Once that movement becomes natural, the system is quick and easy to operate with one hand.

Reattaching the bottle is where the magnets really help. You do not need to perfectly line up two small pieces. Bring the bottle close to the base, and the magnetic force helps guide it into position before the mechanical latch secures it.

The attachment produces a satisfying connection that lets you know the bottle is in place.

More Than a Bottle Mount

The TWIST system is also modular. The same basic TWIST base can support compatible toolboxes, small bags, cargo connectors, and other accessories.

That modularity makes the system more useful than a proprietary bicycle bottle cage. You can use the mounting point for hydration on one ride and switch to storage for another.

FIDLOCK Hip Pack + Double Bottle Base

The FIDLOCK Hip Pack + Double Bottle Base combines hydration, storage, and waterproof protection into one package.

Designed primarily for mountain biking, the pack has two integrated TWIST bases positioned on the outside. This allows you to carry two bottles without forcing them into traditional fabric bottle pockets.

The pack currently retails for $189.99 and includes one 450-milliliter Smoke-colored TWIST bottle. Although only one bottle is included, both sides of the pack have TWIST bases, and the bases are compatible with other TWIST bottles.

Between the bottle mounts is a large compressible storage compartment. The pack also includes flexible exterior straps for securing a jacket, two smaller pockets for keys and essentials, and a HERMETIC waterproof compartment for a phone or other valuables.

FIDLOCK also uses magnetic fasteners throughout the pack, making the compartments easier to open and close, even while wearing gloves.

Hydration Without a Backpack

The Hip Pack + Double Bottle Base is an interesting alternative to wearing a hydration backpack.

A backpack can carry more water and equipment, but it also covers a large portion of your back. That can become hot and uncomfortable, especially during summer rides. A hip pack keeps most of the weight lower on the body and leaves your upper back exposed.

Using bottles also makes it easier to see how much fluid remains, refill during a ride, and carry two different drinks. You could keep plain water in one bottle and an electrolyte or carbohydrate drink in the other.

The double-base system also provides some flexibility. You can carry two bottles for longer rides, one bottle for shorter rides, or potentially use one of the TWIST mounts for another compatible accessory.

The biggest drawback is price. At $189.99—and with only one bottle included—the FIDLOCK pack costs considerably more than a basic hydration belt or conventional hip pack. Adding a second TWIST bottle increases the total investment.

Still, this is not a basic waist pack. It integrates two proprietary mounting systems, waterproof storage, magnetic fasteners, and a modular carrying system in one product.

Who Should Consider FIDLOCK Products?

FIDLOCK products make the most sense for cyclists and outdoor athletes who appreciate thoughtful design and are willing to pay more for convenience.

The HERMETIC bags are a good option for cyclists, runners, hikers, paddlers, beachgoers, and anyone who regularly needs to protect a phone or small valuables from water and sand.

The TWIST bottles are especially appealing to cyclists with limited frame clearance or anyone who wants a cleaner alternative to traditional bottle cages.

The Double Bottle Hip Pack is best suited for mountain bikers and riders who need more hydration than a single bottle can provide but do not want to wear a backpack.

FIDLOCK may be less compelling for someone who already owns a large collection of standard cycling bottles and wants the least expensive hydration setup possible. Once you move into the TWIST ecosystem, replacement bottles and accessories will generally cost more than conventional alternatives.

Final Thoughts: Is FIDLOCK Worth It?

FIDLOCK products are more expensive than the conventional bottles, waterproof pouches, and hip packs they replace. However, the higher prices are tied to real design differences rather than styling alone.

The magnetic closures are not a gimmick.

The HERMETIC bags close automatically and remove much of the uncertainty associated with traditional waterproof pouches. The TWIST system creates a secure bottle connection while allowing the bottle to release sideways, making it an excellent solution for bikes with limited space. The Hip Pack + Double Bottle Base intelligently combines both technologies into one versatile hydration system.

What impresses me most is how naturally the products operate. The magnets help everything find the correct position, while the mechanical elements provide the security needed for cycling and other outdoor activities.

You can certainly carry water and protect your phone for less money. However, if you appreciate innovative equipment, clean design, and gear that is genuinely easier to operate, FIDLOCK has created one of the most interesting outdoor accessory systems currently available.
