Freak Athlete Hyper Pro Review

Freak Athlete Hyper Pro Review: The Ultimate Multi-Use Posterior Chain Trainer

In an age where garage gyms are booming and space is at a premium, finding equipment that delivers serious versatility without hogging square footage is like striking gold. The Freak Athlete Hyper Pro doesn’t just promise multi-functionality—it delivers. Built for athletes of all levels who are serious about posterior chain development, this one compact piece of equipment allows for a wide range of elite movements, helping you build strength, speed, and resilience where it matters most.

A True Multi-Use Machine

Let’s get something clear right off the bat—the Freak Athlete Hyper Pro isn’t just a nordic bench, and it isn’t just a GHD (glute-ham developer). It’s a fully integrated posterior chain training system designed to grow with you. This is not a one-trick pony. Whether you’re a CrossFitter, sprinter, football player, powerlifter, or weekend warrior recovering from injury, the Hyper Pro has something to offer.

Most importantly, it replaces the need for multiple bulky machines. If you’ve ever looked at a lineup of gym equipment and thought, “If only I could combine all that into one,” Freak Athlete listened. This tool covers a lot of ground.

One of the things that immediately drew me to the Hyper Pro was its incredible versatility. I was genuinely excited to see just how many different exercises you can do with a single piece of equipment. From nordic curls and reverse hypers to back extensions, hip thrusts, and even core work like GHD sit-ups, the Hyper Pro opens the door to an entire library of movements. It’s not just about quantity either—these are high-impact, functional exercises that target major muscle groups and support overall athletic performance. Whether you’re training for strength, speed, injury prevention, or just looking to build a well-rounded lower body, this machine gives you the tools to get there.

Unboxing the Hyper Pro

When the Hyper Pro arrived, it was noticeably heavy—well over 100 pounds. The FedEx driver, who looked like he could’ve been a garage gym owner himself (seriously fit guy), made a comment about how much it weighed. Fortunately, I got home just as it was being delivered.

The packaging was top-notch. Everything was secure, and even the straps were taped down for extra protection.

Pro Tip: When unboxing the Hyper Pro, grab a box cutter and cut all the straps from the bottom of the box first. Then flip the box over and simply lift off the top—it makes the whole process way easier.

Assembly Instructions

The Hyper Pro doesn’t come fully assembled, so be prepared to read directions. Luckily Freak Athlete also has an assembly video for those that rather watch and learn.

I found setup using the assembly video the easy way to go. It took about 45 minutes and because the instructions were so good, no mistakes were made. I did pause the video a lot while doing the various steps.

Pro Tip – You will want a set of ratchet wrenches and an adjustable one to make tightening bolts faster.

Observation. To fully utilize the Hyper Pro, you will have to use it a bunch of times to really get into the flow of how the machine works and how to set everything up. There will be an adjustment period. I would like to see the pad density increase to something more like Eleiko’s bench.

Exercises You Can Do with the Freak Athlete Hyper Pro

The highlight of the Hyper Pro is its wide range of posterior-chain exercises, which are crucial for athletic performance, injury prevention, and general strength training. Here’s a breakdown of the most impactful movements you can perform with this unit:

1. Nordic Hamstring Curls

The crown jewel of hamstring development. Few movements are as effective for building strong, bulletproof hamstrings. The Hyper Pro allows you to adjust difficulty based on your strength level (more on that below), making nordics accessible to beginners and still challenging for elites.

One of the standout features of the Hyper Pro is how customizable it is—especially when it comes to nordic curls. Unlike fixed-position benches that expect you to be elite-level strong right out of the gate, the Hyper Pro is thoughtfully designed with progression in mind. You can start with the bench in a more inclined position, which reduces the amount of bodyweight your hamstrings have to control, making it much more approachable for beginners. As your strength improves, you can gradually lower the incline over time until you’re performing the movement completely flat, or even adding resistance for advanced overload. This progressive setup allows you to build real strength through the full range of motion without compromising form or risking injury. Whether you’re just starting out or already chasing strict bodyweight nordics, the Hyper Pro adapts to meet you where you are—and challenges you to level up.

2. Reverse Hyperextensions

Reverse hypers are amazing for decompressing the spine while training the glutes, hamstrings, and lower back. Traditionally only available on massive specialty machines, the Hyper Pro makes them possible in a compact footprint.

3. Back Extensions (45-Degree or Horizontal)

You can easily adjust the machine for back extensions, helping to build spinal erector strength—essential for posture, deadlifts, and overall back resilience.

4. Glute Ham Raises (GHR)

For those wanting more of a blend between a back extension and a nordic curl, the GHR setup on the Hyper Pro gives you another powerful posterior chain movement.

5. Sit-Ups / Ab Work

The Hyper Pro isn’t limited to posterior chain only. The GHD setup allows for high-quality GHD sit-ups and other core movements, giving your anterior core the attention it needs for balance and support.

6. Hip Thrusts

Thanks to the adjustable hip pad and foot placement options, you can get into a perfect position for glute bridges or hip thrusts, using either your bodyweight or resistance bands.

7. Hamstring Slides / Bodyweight Leg Curls

Using sliders or furniture movers on the footplate or floor, the setup is ideal for loaded and unloaded hamstring slides—great for those progressing toward full nordics.

8. Isometric Holds & Eccentric Work

The Hyper Pro’s versatility also supports isometric holds (great for rehab and tendon health) and eccentric-focused work. These types of training are often neglected but are extremely beneficial for injury resilience.

9. Step-Ups / Split Squats / Bulgarian Split Squats

With the adjustable platform and foot holds, you can perform elevated movements that challenge balance, mobility, and unilateral leg strength.

This is by no means an exhaustive list, and creative users have found even more variations to unlock. But the above exercises highlight just how comprehensive the machine is for lower body and core work.

Leg Developer

One of the standout features of the Freak Athlete Hyper Pro is its leg developer attachment, which adds serious versatility to an already multi-functional piece of equipment. While the Hyper Pro is best known for Nordic curls and posterior chain work, the leg developer expands its utility by letting you directly target the quads and hamstrings through movements like leg extensions and seated or prone leg curls. For home gym users looking to round out their lower body training, this attachment makes the Hyper Pro even more of a complete solution.

The Leg Developer attachment arrives in several pieces that require assembly, similar to the Hyper Pro, but the setup process is much quicker. All the small components and necessary tools are neatly organized in clearly numbered bags, making the assembly straightforward and hassle-free.

Below I am showing you several exercises that can be performed with the Leg Developer attachment.

The leg developer on the Hyper Pro feels solid and well-padded, offering a surprisingly smooth range of motion. The roller positions are thoughtfully spaced, cradling your shins and ankles comfortably during each rep. While it’s not commercial-grade, it absolutely gets the job done for serious garage gym athletes who want to replicate gym-style leg training at home. It’s a smart, space-saving alternative to buying bulky machines and integrates seamlessly with the Hyper Pro’s adjustable frame.

Another bonus is that it allows you to superset or alternate movements without changing stations—making it ideal for anyone looking to maximize training efficiency. Whether you’re using it to warm up, finish off a leg day, or build up strength after injury, the leg developer attachment brings extra value and functionality to the Hyper Pro without the commercial machine price tag.

Upper Body Work

Below Kathleen is doing some upper body exercises that can be done with strap attachment that comes with 2 handles.

Designed for Progression: The Nordic Curl Feature

Let’s take a closer look at the Nordic Curl setup, which deserves special attention.

One of the biggest drawbacks of traditional nordic benches is that they’re designed for people who already have the hamstring strength to control the descent. That’s a small group. For everyone else, nordics become frustrating or discouraging.

Freak Athlete fixed that.

The Hyper Pro provides lots of angle options so that both the elite nordic curler or a beginner can successfully perform a nordic curl based on their ability and angle of the hyper pro.

  • Beginner-friendly progression
  • Controlled eccentric training
  • Greater time under tension
  • Reduced injury risk

You can progressively reduce assistance over time by changing the angle as your hamstrings get stronger. This is a game-changer for those who’ve always wanted to add nordics to their training but didn’t have the strength to do them well (or safely).

Build Quality and Adjustability

The Hyper Pro is built like a tank but refined like a sports car. Here are the standout construction details:

  • Heavy-duty steel frame that supports dynamic movement without flex or wobble.
  • High-quality padding that provides comfort and support across all use cases—especially during reverse hypers and nordics. I do feel this is where improvements could be made. Having more dense pads that are of higher quality would be a welcome addition.
  • Quick-adjust levers and pins so you can switch between setups quickly without fumbling or wasting time. The Hyper Pro does have a learning curve so don’t expect to switch between exercises quickly at first.
  • Band pegs and anchor points built-in for resistance band training and advanced programming.

Despite its robust construction, it remains compact enough to fit into most home or garage gyms. And for something this versatile, the space-saving aspect can’t be overstated.

The downside is that the Hyper Pro isn’t built to commercial gym standards. It feels more suited for a home or garage gym setup rather than high-traffic use. In contrast, the upcoming APEX model, expected to launch later this year, appears to be designed with commercial-grade durability in mind.

Dimensions, Weight, and Storage

  • Footprint: 63″ x 24″ (takes up less space than a GHD or traditional reverse hyper machine)
  • Weight: Approx. 110 lbs (easy to move for one person with wheels on one end)
  • Adjustable Heights: Suits users from 5’ to 6’6”
  • Foldability: While not foldable like some lightweight benches, the compact design and vertical storage option make it easy to tuck away when not in use.

Price and Value

  • Price: $749 (at the time of writing, direct from Freak Athlete)
  • Shipping: Usually included in the price or heavily discounted for U.S. customers
  • Financing: Available through Affirm or Shop Pay in monthly installments

While $749 isn’t a small investment, the value per use-case is exceptionally high. If you bought a GHD, a reverse hyper, a nordic bench, and a hip thrust platform separately, you’d be looking at $2,000+ and a garage full of gear. The Hyper Pro consolidates all of that.

In fact the Freak Athlete APEX will set you back much more than the cost of the Hyper Pro and will have less exercise options.

Freak Athlete APEX Review

Who Is It For?

This isn’t just for elite athletes or hardcore strength coaches. The Hyper Pro is for:

  • Everyday lifters wanting stronger glutes, hamstrings, and low backs.
  • Athletes (football, track, soccer, CrossFit) who need power and injury prevention.
  • Rehab professionals or individuals recovering from hamstring strains or back issues.
  • Home gym owners with limited space but big performance goals.

If you’re looking for a single piece of equipment to address weakness, improve sprint speed, bulletproof your knees, and fortify your core, this is it.

Final Verdict: The Posterior Chain Powerhouse

The Freak Athlete Hyper Pro lives up to the hype—and then some. With its smart design, versatility, and commitment to progressive training, it’s arguably one of the best investments you can make for lower body and core development in a home gym setting.

Whether you’re an athlete chasing peak performance or simply someone who wants to move better, feel stronger, and stay injury-free, this machine delivers. It replaces 3 to 4 pieces of equipment, adjusts to your ability level, and challenges you in all the right ways.

It’s not just a nordic bench. It’s not just a reverse hyper. It’s a complete posterior chain training system.
