Sidi Shot Cycling Shoes Review | 2017

Sidi Shot Cycling Shoes Review | 2017

So you want to stand out in a crowd, well for those who know anything about cycling, the Sidi Shot Cycling Shoes will certainly get you there.

Sidi Shot Cycling Shoe Blue Sky

The Shot is Sidi’s top of the line road cycling shoe and it has plenty to boast about.  The design bleeds Italian through and through and it is in our opinion one of the most beautiful works of cycling craftsmanship we have seen.

Sidi repositioned where the rotary dials are located from the side of the shoe to a central position mounted on top of the tongue.  This could be good or bad in our opinion.  Having the dials on the side elevates a pressure point that could be present with the dials on the top of the foot.  It remains to be seen if the other Sidi shoes will adopt this type of change.  We had tested out the Vittoria HORO EVO and found that as you tighten the shoes a pressure point builds over the foot.  Maybe having two dials instead of one like the HORA EVO has reduces this problem.

The Sidi Shot comes in 5 flavors including a Sky Blue, Bright Yellow, Matt Black, Red/White and White.

VENT CARBON SOLE

Sidi Shot Cycling Shoe Vent Carbon Sole

The VENT CARBON Sole features a light and replaceable heel pad in polyurethane to improve walkability and a replaceable integrated toe pad/vent cover. The key benefits of the VENT CARBON Sole are not only superior power transfer, because of its light weight and stiffness, but also warm weather comfort. The VENT CARBON Sole is designed with an integrated vent and air channels for heat dissipation and air flow. The vent can be opened or closed for 4-season comfort. To open the vent, simply loosen the screw, slide the triangular piece towards the front of the shoe and tighten the screen again.  To close the vent simply loosen the screw, slide the triangular piece towards the back of the shoe and tighten the screen again.

The VENT CARBON Sole is handmade exclusively of carbon fiber in a weave pattern oriented at opposing angles that maximize stiffness while allowing for a small degree of controlled flex in the toe area. This carefully designed flex biomechanically relieves stress on the plantar tendon and helps promote circulation.

The VENT CARBON Sole features a standard 3-hole drilling pattern, printed 10 mm lateral and fore/aft cleat alignment scale as well as the Look Memory Eyelet for easy cleat alignment and replacement. For triathlon, the vent also serves as a water drain, dramatically improving foot comfort after a wet transition.

SIDI SHOT CYCLING SHOES TECHNOLOGY

The Shot cycling shoes boasts 4 main technical areas of adjustment, fit and comfort.

  • DOUBLE TECNO-3 PUSH SYSTEM
  • REFLEX ADJUSTABLE HEEL RETENTION DEVICE
  • SIDI HEEL CUP
  • ANTISLIP REPLACEABLE HEEL PAD

DOUBLE TECNO-3 PUSH SYSTEM

Sidi Shot Cycling Shoes DOUBLE TECNO 3 PUSH SYSTEM

The DOUBLE TECNO 3 PUSH SYSTEM is inserted on a single base, this speeds up wearing and taking off shoes. The central mechanism creates a perfect tension balance between the shoe’s internal and external side. The symmetrical mechanism guarantees an excellent closure adapting on every instep. An innovative button added to the monofilament buckle, if pushed, lifts the buckle to facilitate the adjustment.

REFLEX ADJUSTABLE HEEL RETENTION DEVICE

Sidi Shot Cycling Shoes REFLEX ADJUSTABLE HEEL RETENTION DEVICE

The REFLEX ADJUSTABLE HEEL RETENTION DEVICE reinforces the top of the heel cup and improves the fit by closing the back of the shoe securely around the rider’s heel. The heel retention device tightens the top of the heel cup so that the heel doesn’t slide out during steep climbs or sprints. Each side of the heel can be adjusted independently, for a perfect fit. For a custom adjustment turn the screw towards the + sign to tighten the heel retention device and towards the – sign to open it. Light weight, easy to use, and replaceable. For additional security while pedaling, the new adjustable heel device is provided with reflex inserts for more visibility in dark conditions.

SIDI REINFORCED HEEL CUP

Reinforced cup that stabilizes and supports the heel. Anatomically shaped plastic, reduces heel slip and provides increased power transfer. Provides additional foot protection in the event of a crash.

ANTISLIP REPLACEABLE HEEL PAD

Sidi Shot Cycling Shoe Replaceable heel Tacco Antiscivolo

For walkability, Sidi cycling shoes include a replaceable polyurethane heel pad. SHOT’s heel pad has a new design and it is very light.

CHRIS FROOME TEAM SKY

Chris Froome of Team Sky Tour De France (TDF 2017) giving the Sidi Shot the thumbs up.  You will notice that Chris’s shoe is slightly different than the production models.  His is missing the heel retention device.

BOTTOM LINE

Sidi has made some killer shoes with some fantastic updates.  Unfortunately we haven’t had a chance to really put the shoes to the test, so we can only give our observations.  Based on other shoes we have reviewed like the Vittoria Ikon or the Fi’zi:k R1B, Sidi looks like they have a winner.  The shoes look to be a bit more breathable than either the Vittoria or Fi’zi:k, with it’s mesh front, but until we have had a chance to ride with them, we can only assume.

The only negative we can see is of course the price tag.  At $549, there are a lot of really good top end shoes for about $150-$250 less.
